Watershed Fellowship
(Seasonal)

The Center for Aquatic Sciences at Adventure Aquarium/New Jersey Natural Lands Trust is looking to hire two Fellows who are Camden residents, or reside in the surrounding area, like the outdoors, are interested in learning about the watershed, and are enthusiastic about delivering educational components to our outdoor programs. The Fellows would assist the Assistant Manager of Community Programs in conducting a kayaking, fishing, or Petty's island program, assist with day-to-day activities in the office, and work on a capstone project that will be presented at the end of the summer.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 before June 3rd, 2024
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Must be flexible to work evening and weekend hours
  • Should be comfortable interacting with other people with a commitment to cultural diversity

Science Education Instructor
(Part-time)

The Center for Aquatic Sciences at Adventure Aquarium is looking for fun, creative, and enthusiastic Science Education Instructors to deliver educational programming. The Science Education Instructor will conduct engaging educational experiences primarily through outreach to schools, libraries and community events but also includes on-site experiences. The Science Education Instructor will assist with all aspects of the Center’s educational programming including tours, outreach, onsite presentations, and special events.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Interest in animal conservation and education
  • Comfortable interacting with people
  • Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, walk in a variety of terrains, and able to stand for at least 4 hours
  • Comfortable learning how to handle small animals (i.e.  aquatic/terrestrial invertebrates, reptiles)
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • No history of allergy related to animals or plants which might interfere with ability to volunteer
  • Knowledge of technology and engineering a plus but not essential
  • Some proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Summer Education Instructor
(Seasonal)

The Center for Aquatic Sciences at Adventure Aquarium is looking for a Summer Environmental Instructor to deliver engaging, science-based programs, Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Education. Programs include outreach, camps and workshops.

Requirements:

  • Enthusiastic passion for engaging children in hands-on learning.
  • Ability to read and follow lesson plans for specific programs.
  • Have a solid understanding of basic sciences including biology, marine science and aquatic ecology.
  • Ability to communicate and relate well to individuals of all ages, especially PreK-8.
  • Must be creative, well organized, self-starting and a team player.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.
  • Comfort with handling a variety of live animals including marine invertebrates and reptiles.
  • One-year experience teaching children in an informal/formal setting.
  • Excellent character, integrity and adaptability.
  • Driver’s License and good driving record.
  • Fluent in Spanish, a plus but not required.
